Hello! New Project and Some Social Media Tips!

Hello! Long time no blog, right? Yeah, I've been busy! And to coin Martha Stewart: it's a good thing!

It's been an active time at the Chamber, with Christmas Expo and other events. I've also been working on a great project that had to be done in a rush. I put together a quick website and have been consulting for the Lloydminster Handivan Society.

They are holding a new fundraising campaign called Polar Bear Splash! Oh yes, you too can plunge yourself into a freezing pool of water to help out a great cause! This all goes down at the "Here Comes Santa Claus" festival in Downtown Lloydminster this Saturday, December 2nd. If you want to take the plunge you can collect pledges or challenge you boss to do it! Even the Mayor is in on the action. Take a look at the site and get all information you need there: www.bordercityconnects.com/polarbearsplash

No Post Bombs

So in my travels around local social media, I've seen a couple of things that I'd like to give some tips. The first thing is DON'T POST 20 THINGS IN 5 MINUTES! You're just wasting your time and effort, because when people are scrolling down their timelines if they see a post bomb, they may look at the first couple of items, but after that they will just scroll by the rest. I know that you may not have time to sit down at your desk 5 times a day to spread your posts out, so use an app like Hootsuite to schedule your posts.

Get in Their Heads

This leads directly into my other tip: Use your social media and website analytics to learn more about your audience, when they might be online and schedule your posts for those times. If you have a website you should have some sort of analytics running, such as Google or any included in your web builder. You can learn so much about the customers, or potential customers, that are interacting with you online. Use the information you gather about them to customize their experience.

If you are new to online marketing, but have a brick and mortar operation, think of your current customers, what their lifestyle might be and when they are using social media. If your main target is "mom's with school-age children", post something around 3 pm when they might be waiting to pick up their kids from school or around 8:30 pm when they might be actually sitting down to relax after their busy day. If your target is managers or executives, post at lunchtime when they might be checking their phones while they scarf a lunch or at 5:30 pm when they are sweating on the stationary bike at the gym. Get in your customers head, figure out their timeline and meet them there!

Need a hand getting started with Hootsuite or social media? Give me a shout and I'd be happy to help.
